Cartwright Law Firm wins appeal, saving client $244,799

Cartwright Law Firm's team, led by Utah attorney Joe Cartwright, successfully appealed a judgment entered against a client in the amount of $244,799.28, in a decision announced on August 15, 2012.

In the Court of Appeal's detailed 30-page opinion, the three-judge panel had the "definite and firm conviction" that the trial court's judgment should be reversed and judgment should be entered in favor of Cartwright Law Firm's client.  The judges declined to send the case back to the trial court judge and instead directed the lower court to enter judgment in favor of Cartwright Law Firm's client.

Cartwright Law Firm and Joe Cartwright have successfully resolved numerous cases in State and Federal Court involving personal injury, business, real estate, and investment matters.

Litigation group successful in criminal action

The litigation group led by lawyer Joe Cartwright was successful in the criminal charges they have pursued over the past year against Fasi Filiaga.  Judge Royal Hansen sentenced Filiaga to prison terms of 1-15 years for each of four 2nd degree felony convictions for securities fraud.  Filiaga was also ordered to pay restitution.  A restitution hearing is scheduled for next month.

The prosecution and defense attorney entered into a plea agreement which required the prosecutor to recommend that Filiaga only serve 60 days in jail.  The litigation group strongly opposed this sentencing recommendation from the plea deal.  After reviewing the statements from the litigation group and hearing from several group members at the sentencing hearing, Judge Hansen disregarded the prosecutor's recommendation and followed the desires of the victims by sentencing Filiaga to prison.
